GEORGE COUNTY, Miss. (WLOX) - Many people think a defensive lineman’s mind only thinks see ball, get ball, but George County’s Caleb Lofton has just as much success in the classroom as he does on the field.

The senior defensive lineman is a leader in the trenches and the hallways, and his emphasis on academics is a nonnegotiable in the Lofton household.

“Most importantly,” Lofton said, “What my mom and dad always was “You first do it in the classroom then you can come out here and have fun.””

Lofton’s focus on book smarts is no surprise considering his mother’s occupation.

“Well, my mom is a teacher, so it has always been a main thing. If you do not have the grades it wont be good, so I always try my best in class,” he said.

That mentality has helped Lofton attain a near perfect 3.9
