NORTHPORT, Ala. ( WBRC ) - New developments this week in the massive construction project in Northport known as ‘University Beach.’

Thursday, project developers and city leaders met in court but this was a matter of protocol, a bond validation hearing. City leaders say the hearing was to ensure the bonds are being issued in the proper way. The bond money being borrowed is around $59 million.

“This was just a protocol and like I said Judge (Glenn) Pruitt handled it in a very professional manner and I appreciate that on behalf of the city of Northport. Some great information was put out there for citizens to hear. It was a packed courthouse and I think this was a good process, some things spoken people got to hear that hopefully will be very informative,” said Northport mayor Dale Phi
