EUGENE, Ore. - U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden visited Eugene to tour FOOD for Lane County's facilities. According to reports, he aimed to assess Lane County's status amidst a potential food shortage.
Wyden noticed empty rafters and shelves where food should be stored. He plans to address this by filling the shelves and building a community stockpile.
"Food in America should never be used as a political weapon. Sadly hunger never takes a day off," Wyden said.
In addition to the tour and media discussions, Wyden had a private meeting with FOOD for Lane County leaders. They focused on creating a concrete plan to tackle the county's food insecurity issues.
"The first pledge I want to make is, as Oregon's senior senator I'm going to do everything I can to reverse that damage," Wyden said.
