Intel laid off another 669 Oregon workers on Thursday, bringing its total local job cuts above 3,000 for the year.

Most of Thursday’s layoffs are in the company’s factories in Hillsboro and Aloha, according to a layoff notice filed with state workforce officials. That includes more than 300 factory technicians.

Intel’s manufacturing arm is at the heart of its problems. The company has fallen behind its rivals who have more advanced production technology, leaving Intel’s chips behind the leading-edge in terms of performance and energy efficiency.

The company forecasts about $52 billion in sales this year, down from $79 billion in 2021.
