We have just marked another Veteran’s Day. Usually, I reflect on my time in service on Veteran’s Day. Fortunately, I served four years without facing peril because the army didn’t send me to Southeast Asia. I value that time in the service. It gave me a perspective different from the one from a town somewhere between a small and moderate size. It taught me that a diverse mix of people make up the military and it works because of teamwork. In the mid-sixties racism still existed in the military but was losing its hold.
