ROCKLAND, Maine — The Maine attorney general’s office is weighing next steps after a mistrial Wednesday in the case of a man accused of killing a child over a year ago.

Aziayh Scott, 24, of Owls Head was charged with manslaughter in Knox County after a Thomaston toddler died last year.

Quayshawn Wilson, a 22-month-old child, was found not breathing at a Walmart on May 29, 2024 . A bystander nurse attempted CPR before a Thomaston police officer took over for several minutes, according to the criminal complaint . Scott and his girlfriend, also the child's mother, Shaneka Washington were present.

Wilson was brought to Pen Bay Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

A Maine State Police detective described seeing Wilson's "apparent bruising and a visibly distended stomach area"
