President Donald Trump raised a few eyebrows Thursday when he told reporters he's already eyeing a new White House demolition project.
Trump is facing criticism over a new White House ballroom in the East Wing that will occupy about 90,000 square feet and host up to 999 guests. But The Guardian noted Thursday that the president is already scheming for his next project.
Trump "dropped a very strong hint that he intends to demolish at least part of the original exterior wall of the White House residence to link the historic building to his new ballroom," the outlet wrote.
The president's long-term plan was unveiled during his remarks in the White House East Room, when he turned and pointed at the golden drapes behind him hanging over a large window.
“And right behind me, by the way, in about two years from now, we’ll use a much bigger room,” Trump said. “It’ll be right here."
Trump plans to build a new glass hallway, according to the report.
“That’s a knock-out panel, it’s called a knock-out,” Trump said, referring to a wall that can be quickly removed during construction that allows for future expansion. "It looks pretty nice right now, but gonna look a lot better in a little while."
