Police are investigating a fatal traffic crash in Point Vernon on Friday, 14 November.

Emergency services were called around 4.30am to reports a silver Hyundai IX35 hatchback had struck a pedestrian at the intersection of Banksia Street and Esplanade.

Following the crash, the driver of the vehicle failed to remain at the scene and render assistance.

The pedestrian, a 57-year-old Point Vernon man, sustained serious injuries and was declared deceased at the scene.

The Hyundai was located at a Urraween residence around 5am.

A 20-year-old man has been taken into custody and is assisting police with their investigation.

Officers are appealing to anyone who may have information or any relevant vision is urged to contact police.
