LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A Laredo volunteer spent 24 hours inside a dog kennel to raise awareness for older animals at the Laredo Animal Protective Society (LAPS) shelter who have been waiting months or years to find homes.
The volunteer, who goes by “Cobra,” participated in LAPS’ new “24 Hours for Forgotten Tails” initiative in observance of Kindness Day. The awareness campaign aims to highlight older and often lonely, sheltered animals who may not have been given a fair opportunity to find a forever home.
“The only thing that people ask me is, ‘it’s kind of a little bit extreme to commit yourself for 24 hours,’ some people might not grasp it or the rationale behind it,” Cobra said. “But sometimes you have to do unconventional things to get the point across.”
