Over a dozen streets in the city of Palmview will receive a total of 119 streetlights, the city announced.
The streetlights should be fully implemented by fall 2026 at no cost to taxpayers.
Palmview Mayor Rick Villarreal said the community let city leaders know what they wanted.
“A lot of times, they call us and tell us their lights went out or these streets don't have any lights,” Villarreal said. “They would also call to say, ‘when are we going to put lights on this street?’”
A $250,000 grant is covering the majority of the project. The city is adding another $6,000 to the project.
Villarreal said the lights will help improve safety for everyone in the area.
“This is icing on the cake to make sure our citizens are safe,” Villarreal said.
