TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - Pima County is proposing new regulations to manage truck traffic on unpaved roads near the proposed Copper World mine.

The proposed ordinance aims to limit truck trips to 75 per day and set a speed limit of 15 miles per hour on roads with more than 150 daily trips. This initiative is part of an effort to reduce dust emissions and maintain air quality standards, according to an official document.

The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) previously issued an air quality permit for the Copper World mine in the Santa Rita Mountains. However, Pima County expressed concerns that the permit did not address the unpaved Santa Rita Road, which could see increased heavy-duty truck traffic, potentially raising dust levels in nearby communities.
