LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - A provision in the federal government spending package could eliminate most hemp-derived THC products currently sold in Louisiana within a year.
The new law drops the legal THC amount from 0.3% THC by dry weight to just 0.4 milligrams per container . Industry advocacy group U.S. Hemp Roundtable says almost 95% of all THC products contain more than that limit.
At ViperX Smoke Shop off Nelson Road, legal THC products represent the majority of sales.
“In reality, this is about 85% of our sales,” manager Mary Whitaker said.
Whitaker said the change will significantly impact their business.
“It’s going to create a massive drop in business. We’re going to have less customers coming in. We’re going to have less foot traffic,” Whitaker said.
