A man who shot a police officer and was wounded during a Tangipahoa Parish shootout and car chase was identified by Louisiana State Police Thursday as 34-year-old Trey Ramey of Brusly.
State Police said Ramey was in a 2016 Chevrolet Trax on U.S. Highway 51 just outside of Independence at around 3 a.m. Wednesday when he fled as a Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office deputy attempted to stop him over an equipment violation.
Ramey opened fire during the ensuing chase, exchanging gunfire with a Tickfaw Police Department officer and wounding an Independence Police Department officer, State Police said.
Ramey proceeded to carjack two people, fleeing on Highway 51 in their 2015 Toyota Camry before crashing the car and heading into a wooded area on foot, according to State Police. A trooper als
