Dozens of residents and community leaders came together Thursday night for a town hall in Covington County.

The town hall, held at the Rodney J Evans Civic Center near Lake Jackson in Florala, drew a packed room of people who are opposed to a proposed underground carbon dioxide storage facility, known as the Pine Hills Storage Hub.

According to the company behind the project, Reliant CCS, the pipeline would store millions of tons of carbon dioxide thousands of feet deep underground. The Pine Hills Storage Hub would serve as Alabama’s flagship carbon storage facility. The company says the storage hub will safely store millions of tons of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) deep underground.
