COLUMBUS, Ohio — Columbus City Schools Superintendent Dr. Angela Chapman presented recommendations Thursday night to eliminate nearly 450 positions as part of a plan to cut $50 million from the district's budget.

A joint committee meeting was held for the third and final time to determine how to address the budget deficit, with the meeting focused specifically on staffing cuts.

Chapman's proposal to the district's Board of Education and their committee members allocates $41 million of the total cuts to personnel reductions across three categories: 54 administrative positions; 275 certificated positions, including teachers, counselors, social workers and nurses; and 116 classified positions, including bus drivers, food service workers and security specialists — which totals 445.
