SAN ANTONIO — A deadly crash in an east-side neighborhood has renewed calls for traffic-safety improvements after a 70-year-old woman was struck and killed while sitting on her front porch Tuesday night.
San Antonio police said Janice Walker was on her porch on Dafoste Street around 11 p.m. when a speeding driver lost control, hit a curb and crashed into her home, striking Walker. The driver ran off, and police are still searching for the suspect.
Neighbors rushed to try to lift the car off Walker, but she died from her injuries.
“You don’t know when people are going to leave,” neighbor Marie Rose said. “He’s wrong for that… you ain’t got away because God sees what you did.”
Residents say speeding has been a long-standing problem in the area. Nearby streets have been fitted with speed
