It’s a tale as old as time in Indian politics. Almost every major election in the country has been candidates from the same political bloodline fight it out against each other. But rarely are they as closely related as Tejashwi Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav, the sons of RJD patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav.
Little over three hours into the counting for Bihar election results on Friday, Lalu’s heir apparent and RJD’s chief ministerial face Tejashwi Yadav was leading from Raghopur constituency after trailing briefly. In contrast, his elder brother Tej Pratap Yadav was trailing from Mahua seat since morning. Tej Pratap is contesting the Bihar elections as a candidate of Janshakti Janta Dal, a party he floated earlier this year after being expelled from the RJD by his father.
