RADCLIFF, Ky. — Thursday marked the first full day since Sept. 30 that the federal government was fully open.
The shutdown impacted national parks across the country, including Mammoth Cave National Park, along with areas around military installations.
The city of Radcliff surrounds Fort Knox, and many businesses were established to welcome soldiers, civilian employees, and their families.
But during the shutdown, many were missing paychecks, which affected budgets.
The Gathering Bakery, located up the hill from Fort Knox, saw an immediate impact in October .
"When this first started, we were about 25 percent down on our sales, and we had gotten to about 35 percent," Ashley Dunn said, whose mother owns the bakery.
