LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Lincoln Electric System is planning to replace several transmission lines that pass through the Haymarket downtown, starting early next year.

On Thursday, the utility held an open house at the Haymarket Lazlo’s to share more details with the public.

Work will start near Salt Creek Roadway and 17th street, following the power lines along Salt Creek Roadway southwest toward the Haymarket. Construction will then turn down 8th street going south through the Haymarket, before making a turn west at N street and going across the train tracks to 1st and M streets.

Officials say this will double the capacity of the transmission lines bringing power through the inner city.
