OMAHA, Neb. —
A Holocaust survivor used her passion for painting to process her trauma. Now, her work is being displayed at the Jewish Community Center of Omaha.
Even when hope seemed distant, Sofia Davidson found strength through painting, turning her pain into color. With each piece of art, she found a way to recover. Art has a way of providing healing, and Davidson used a paintbrush to confront her past.
According to Suzanne Howich, “painting really addressed the hidden trauma and the memories, which with each brushstroke.”
Davidson died in 1990, but today her work lives on. Howich now takes the paintings across the world to educate others.
"We have to look at the history and how our history continues to repeat itself, unless we educate ourselves and make changes,” Howich said.
