An application to stop work at the Orange sporting precinct has been dismissed by the federal government's heritage department.
It comes after Wiradjuri man Paul Towney submitted an emergency heritage application to the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), a branch of the federal government.
The department was considering the application under section 18 of the Act and consulted with Orange Local Aboriginal Lands Council (OLALC) and local elders.
In a statement, Orange City Council said the application "related to the significance of the area in accordance with Aboriginal tradition and the threat of desecration".
Mr Towney previously told the CWD he believed the land in question off Forest Road had been illegally handed over in the 1800s by Gove
