HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KWCH) - Across the nation, police departments often conduct investigations by telling people to call Crime Stoppers, an organization that allows for anonymous tips. This is deemed especially necessary to protect witnesses from suspects.

From Crime Stoppers, police send information gathered from tips to the relevant department.

“We’ll get notified by email that we have a tip and then we’ll see what kind of information is on there,” said Detective Sergeant Matt Franklin with the Reno County Sheriff’s Office.

Reno County has used Crime Stoppers since the 1980s, a time when tips were anonymous by coming through via calls with no caller ID. Technology continues to advance with online tips.

With that, Franklin offered reassurance.
