AVONDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — Court documents released on Thursday night say the mother of a 17-year-old girl shot and killed in her Avondale apartment claims the shooter tried to kill her and that she knows who the suspect is.

The paperwork comes from the arrest of 18-year-old Emilio Andres Rivera , who wasn’t arrested in connection with Rhiana Kemplin’s death but for allegedly slashing tires on more than a dozen cars last weekend.

Court documents said Kemplin’s mother was startled awake by her bedroom being forced open at the Rio Santa Fe Apartments , near Dysart Road and McDowell Road , on Saturday before 6:30 a.m. She said a man wearing a black hoodie, black pants, and something covering his mouth, possibly a mask, was pointing a gun at her.
