GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The City of Greenville is taking a deeper look at special exception permits, cracking down on late-night establishments.

The city recently launched a new safety initiative for downtown nightlife after multiple videos of fights downtown were widely shared on social media this summer.

Since then, the city has put more pressure on establishments that serve customers after midnight. Officials are also considering a new entertainment district that could prohibit future businesses in that area from applying for a late-night special exception permit.

Reys on Main Street even temporarily lost their permit to stay open past midnight, after the city said they violated the conditions of that permit.
