PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - Bloodworks Northwest teamed up with Portland nonprofit My Voice Music for a special fundraiser on Thursday night.
Bloodworks Northwest reached its recent goal of 100 blood donors in October. That helped them qualify to receive free guitars to give out to kids in the My Voice Music program.
On Thursday, 10 instruments were given out to kids who attended the event and entered the raffle.
The executive director, Amy Sabin, said it’s a big help to families who may not be able to afford a guitar to have at home.
“We think it’s lifesaving, so that’s one of the wonderful things about this campaign. Blood saves lives, and our belief is music can be a lifesaver for kids to build community, express themselves and be in a safe space and be who they are.”
