San Francisco's District 4 Supervisor Beya Alcaraz resigned after being appointed by Mayor Daniel Lurie seven days ago, officials said.

Alcaraz announced her resignation as the Sunset supervisor Thursday with a statement that reads in part, "I believe that my community deserves someone who will work 24/7 to advocate for us. And I understand that today’s news stories would distract me from doing that. As a result, I told Mayor Lurie this evening that I will resign from my position as District 4 supervisor."

Alcaraz was appointed by Lurie on Nov. 6.

Lurie also released a statement Thursday evening that reads in part, "I spoke to Supervisor Alcaraz tonight. She and I agreed, as we always have, that the Sunset deserves a supervisor who is fully focused on serving the community. We also agre
