MONTREAL — This one hurt, and not just for Alex Newhook, who went crashing into the boards in the second period and came up unable to put any weight on his right leg.

It could be broken. We can’t say for sure.

But it’s a certainty the Canadiens are nursing some bruised egos and dented confidence after a humbling 7-0 loss to the Dallas Stars Thursday.

“I feel it in the room,” said Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki. “Guys are kind of gripping their sticks a little too tight and not playing like we were before, and it’s costing us games right now.”

That’s four of the last five the Canadiens have lost, and a second in a row in lopsided fashion.
