Canal House Station has been one of the state’s most acclaimed restaurants since it opened in 2019. Owners Melissa Hamilton and Christopher Hirsheimer have been nominated for multiple James Beard Awards during their time at the helm in Milford, and previously won one for their 2013 cook book, “ Canal House Cooks Every Day ."

But despite that acclaim, the restaurant situated in what was once a train station will soon close its doors.

Hamilton and Hirsheimer sent an email to customers Wednesday announcing the restaurant will be closing in December so the duo can focus on cookbooks.

“We wanted to let you know that we will hang up our aprons, walk away from our stoves, and head back to our desks at the end of this year to return to our Canal House Cooking writing and publishing project
