The government has withdrawn 14 Quality Control Orders (QCOs) on key chemicals, polymers and fibre intermediates on Thursday to help downstream industries, particularly MSMEs in the textiles sector, have uninterrupted raw material availability and also lower their input costs.

The decision is in line with suggestions made by a NITI Aayog-led committee on the need to scrap QCOs on inputs.

But the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), the nodal department for QCOs, is of the view that the action taken so far — issuance of approximately 188 QCOs covering 773 products — has largely helped in improving the quality of locally manufactured goods and also stopped import of low quality products.
