Officials say they expect the Palisade branch of Mesa County Public Libraries to remain closed for several weeks after the building shut its doors Nov. 12, but an exact timeline remains elusive.
Mesa County Libraries Executive Director Michelle Boisvenue-Fox said a ceiling in the building had been visibly sagging for years. Last year, the library removed a children’s picture book section away from underneath the bulge, and more recently, propped the ceiling up with a joist to prevent a potential collapse.
The building now needs construction before it becomes a safety hazard, according to Boisvenue-Fox.
