SEATTLE — Amazon warehouse workers in Washington state are transitioning from packing boxes to building satellites, thanks to a new training program that offers a direct pathway into the aerospace industry.
The program, available to anyone in Washington through a partnership between Amazon and Lake Washington Institute of Technology, provides free training in aerospace assembly and manufacturing. Students can complete the 16-credit certification course in just one quarter.
Nadine Finegold, a graduate of the program, exemplifies the career transformation the initiative enables. She went from stowing packages at an Amazon warehouse to working for Amazon LEO, the company's low-earth orbit satellite division formerly known as Project Kuiper.
