Free power during the middle of the day could soon be available for Victorian households after the state’s watchdog was tasked with investigating the application of a similar, newly announced federal initiative.
Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio this week requested the Essential Services Commission investigate the suitability of a free power period offer for Victorian residential electricity consumers.
The idea mimics an Albanese government proposal from two weeks ago that aims to offer three hours of free power in the middle of the day for households in NSW, South Australia and south-east Queensland, where the national energy regular sets benchmark power plans.
