Households are being put on alert over special Cold Weather Payments with an Arctic blast set to arrive next week.

Temperatures are set to plummet heading into next week, and could struggle to get above 5C by the end of the week.

That has made the prospect of Cold Weather Payments being handed out more likely.

The special bonus payments are issued to low-income households during periods of very cold weather.

They are worth £25 for each cold seven-day period.

They are based on temperatures recorded at local weather stations so everyone is unlikely to get them at the same time unless the whole country is gripped by a freezing sn
