LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (WCAX) - The woman known for singing God Bless America was laid to rest on this day in history.

Kate Smith was forever linked to the patriotic song for her rousing renditions, including at Philadelphia Flyers games.

Smith died in 1986.

Plans to bury her in Lake Placid, where she spent many of her summers, were delayed over a dispute over the size of her monument.

A year and a half later, the cemetery allowed the mausoleum to be built.

On November 14, 1987, Kate Smith was finally laid to rest.
