The good news for the Hawaii women’s basketball team is somebody had to win.

Despite turning the ball over 30 times and shooting 1-for-26 from the 3-point line, the Rainbow Wahine avoided a major upset against Division II St. Martin’s, holding off the Saints 46-41 in overtime on Thursday night.

Bailey Flavell ended a scoreless drought of more than 10 minutes with the first of her two made baskets in the extra five minutes and Hawaii held St. Martin’s without a field goal in the fourth quarter and overtime to improve to 2-0 for the season.

A Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center crowd of 809 watched the teams combine for only one made free throw that accounted for all of the scoring in the final eight minutes of regulation.
