Nitish Kumar is set to return as Bihar’s chief minister for a record tenth term as counting continues, with trends pointing to a sweeping victory for the JD(U)-led NDA.

The 74-year-old has been at the centre of Bihar politics for more than two decades, building a reputation as a reformer and earning the nickname “Sushasan Babu” against the backdrop of the RJD’s so-called “jungle raj.”

Over the years, he has repeatedly reinvented himself while retaining strong support among EBCs and women voters. Many now see this term as a potential swansong for one of Bihar’s towering political figures.

Nitish’s 2025 resurgence has been aided by strong support from women voters, who outnumbered men at the polls, with turnout reaching 71.6% — the highest in 15 years.
