This fall, Indianapolis residents served by private vendors have been required to exchange their trash bins as the city transitions to a new solid waste contract with Lakeshore Recycling Systems starting Jan. 1. Predictably, the change has sparked much criticism online .

Some people suspect the new gray bin is smaller than the green or blue cart it's replacing. Others say it's the same size but skinnier and therefore too tall. Some lament a directive for the lid to be completely closed at pickup time.
