New Delhi: The Right to Sight – India on Friday unveiled updated national guidelines for the prevention and management of diabetic retinopathy (DR) at a National Summit held on World Diabetes Day, aiming to strengthen India’s response to diabetes-related vision loss. The initiative is supported by Roche Products (India) Pvt. Ltd.
India is home to more than 101 million people living with diabetes, with another 21.5 million in the pre-diabetic stage. The number is expected to reach 109 million by 2035. Diabetic retinopathy remains one of the most common and serious complications, affecting nearly 18 per cent of urban and 10.4 per cent of rural diabetics, making it a major cause of vision impairment among working-age adults.
