Millburn, No. 19 in the NJ.com Top 20, defeated Ramapo, No. 9 in the NJ.com Top 20, 26-24, 25-22, 25-18 in the NJSIAA Group 3 semifinals in Franklin Lakes.

Millburn was able to pull out a tight first set on its way to avenging a loss to Ramapo in the same round last season.

“It was back and forth, that first set,” Millburn coach Bill Rentiers said. “We had a game plan against them and we started to execute it a little bit better towards the middle of the first set. The girls were swinging well.”

Avika Vijayraghavan had 14 kills for Millburn. Sydney Grani added 13 kills.

Franna Hawksworth led the way for Millburn with 36 assists.

Millburn has won the sectional title in three consecutive seasons but is still looking its first group title.
