NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - For the first time in nearly a decade, a group of civil engineers has assessed Louisiana’s roads, bridges, water systems and more—giving the state’s infrastructure an overall grade of C-.

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) released its 2025 infrastructure report card on Wednesday (Nov. 12), stating that Louisiana “struggles to maintain its infrastructure” for a “safe, modern society.”

That’s due in part to aging infrastructure, recent natural disasters, and a lack of funding and policies to repair and modernize it rapidly.

The overall grade is compiled from letter grades across 10 key categories. The 2025 report shows that six of those categories have the same or lower grades than in the 2017 report, and no area received a grade higher than C+.
