COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Transportation is installing 31 new wrong-way driver cameras on various highway ramps across central Ohio.
State officials said many of the wrong-way driver issues happen overnight on weekends and are often drunken drivers.
"Our highways are basically racetracks. And people are either going really fast or really slow in the wrong lane and it can make it really confusing on the roads," said one driver 10TV spoke with.
The cameras detect wrong-way drivers as they are getting on the highway, and immediately alert dispatchers in the area. This allows police to respond faster.
"if we can get the detection immediately and have cameras and eyes on this right away and see in real time where these drivers are, we can take miles and minutes and make it fee
