Uber, the popular ride-hailing service, has started rolling out a new feature that enables in-app video recording for drivers in India. The company the new in-app recording functionality is meant to safeguard drivers from misconduct and false allegations.
Six Uber drivers operating in the Delhi -NCR region told TechCrunch that they often face misconduct from riders, with some of them even threatening them with false complaints about their behaviour. These allegations not only force them to pay a fine but also lead to account suspensions.
In a statement to the publication, a Uber driver said, “even female passengers traveling late at night insist that we follow the route they want instead of what’s shown on the map. If we refuse, they threaten to file false complaints.”
