The Harford County Board of Education voted to appeal a state ruling regarding the book “Flamer.”
The state school board overturned a ban on the graphic novel saying that violated Maryland’s Freedom to Read Act and lacked proper community input.
The book tells the story of a boy coming to terms with his sexuality. The school board removed it in June despite a review committee and superintendent recommendation that it stay in middle and high schools.
The matter is heading to Harford County Circuit Court.
