Bethlehem: The cave in Bethlehem believed to be the birthplace of Jesus is preparing for a new phase of restoration, bringing renewed hope to Christians in the Holy Land. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has announced support for the project, calling it an important step in preserving one of the world’s most sacred sites.

The restoration work focuses on the Grotto of the Nativity, the small underground space beneath the Basilica of the Nativity where tradition says Jesus was born. The site has long faced challenges due to age, heavy pilgrimage traffic and structural wear. Authorities hope the new project will protect the grotto and highlight its spiritual and cultural significance for generations to come.
