Stranger Things season 5 star Charlie Heaton has teased how Jonathan Byers' story in the upcoming episodes will differ from his character's past adventures. Jonathan Byers has been a staple of Stranger Things since season 1, as he and his future girlfriend, Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer), stalked the woods to find out what happened to Jonathan's brother, Will (Noah Schnapp), and Nancy's best friend, Barb (Shannon Purser).

Since that terrifying first season, Jonathan's character has been a calming, sensitive presence in the show, haunted by what happened to his little brother and the implications of the Upside Down. Nevertheless, he's always there when the kids, his mother, or Nancy need him, as evidenced by his heroic turn helping Eleven cut out a piece of the Mind Flayer in season 3
