Mpira Ward councillor Christopher Jana has been elected Zomba City Mayor during a councillors’ swearing-in ceremony.
Jana, who is the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Deputy Director of Youth, secured 7 votes to defeat Chinamwali Ward councillor Harry Manda, also of the DPP, who received 2 votes. This marks Jana’s third term as Zomba City Mayor.
Anthony Gonani of the DPP has been elected deputy mayor after garnering 7 votes. Likangala Ward independent councillor Munila Bakali and Juliana Fokoloni from Chambo Ward received one vote each.
Gonani has now been elected deputy mayor for the third time.
