The Blue Jays may not have brought home the World Series title, but their star player has been crowned the first “Entertainer of the Year” by MLB.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr., otherwise known as ‘Vladdy’ or the face of the Blue Jays franchise, received the inaugural award at the MLB’s awards show on Thursday for shining “both on and off the field this season,” MLB said in an Instagram post .
Guerrero did not attend the ceremony and his godfather, Pedro Martinez, retired MLB starting pitcher, accepted the award on his behalf.
“He does a lot more than just play the game,” Martínez said. “He honours his dad. He honours his family.”
Then, while ending his speech, he shouted Vladdy’s now-infamous “Daaa Yankees lose” catchphrase three times to the crowd in Los Angeles.
