Inspectors from two city agencies visited the pet store then owned by recently appointed San Francisco Supervisor Beya Alcaraz on at least five occasions in 2023 and 2024 in response to complaints about store cleanliness, according to city records, and in one case issued a warning.
Mayor Daniel Lurie this month plucked Alcaraz, largely unknown and with no political experience, to fill the District 4 seat vacated by Joel Engardio , who was recalled by voters in September less than a year after introducing the successful 2024 ballot measure that closed a portion of the Great Highway to form the new Sunset Dunes park . Lurie cited in part her experience as a small business owner as being an asset.
“That’s the type of grit and care we need at City Hall,” the mayor said at a Nov. 6
