Several beaches were forced shut on Wednesday morning after sharks were sighted close to shore.

Yanchep Lagoon in Perth’s north, located off Brazier Road, was shut at 9.20am by Surf Life Saving WA following reports of a shark off the coast.

A SLS helicopter reported the shark was three metres in length, but the breed unknown. It was sighted 150m away from the shore.

Governing body SharkSmart reported the shark was travelling in southernly direction.

Lifeguards officially reopened the beach to the public at 10.25am.

It was not the only shark sighting in Yanchep at this time.

Further south on South Yanchep Beach, three hammerhead sharks were sighted 500m offshore at 9.15am.

No warnings or closures were issued regarding the shiver of hammerheads.
