PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Congressman Greg Murphy will visit a food bank in Pitt County this morning.

Rep. Murphy will be volunteering and speaking with local hunger relief advocates at the Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC this morning.

Murphy’s visit comes just days after the longest government shutdown in U.S. history ended.

Millions of people using SNAP benefits across the U.S. were given little to no assistance in the past couple of weeks as a result of the shutdown.

With the government now reopened, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services says SNAP benefits are expected to be fully loaded on recipients’ EBT cards by this morning.
